“Knowledge is the Best Weapon”

“My favourite couplet in Thirukkural is ‘Arivu Aatrang Kaakkum Karuvi’ meaning, the best available weapon is Knowledge. Students should inculcate the habit of reading lots of books to enrich their knowledge” said Mr. R. Thirunavukkarasu IPS, Deputy Commissioner (Intelligence Section), Chennai while giving away prizes to winners of Thirukkural contest held in the city, organized by Shriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam.

The Chennai zone competition was conducted recently (27th July) at Dr. MGR-Janaki College for Women, Raja Annamalaipuram. Around 1104 students participated.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. R. Thirunavukkarasu IPS said, “Victory in war does not matter. The key is to fight. Similarly for students participation in the such competitions is all the more important. Parents and teachers play a very important role in preparing students for such competitions and so they need to be thanked for the efforts taken. Having knowledge in Thirukkural will enable students to score high marks, to win competitions and following it is sure to bring success in life.”

Mr. George Stephen, PRO, Shriram Chits Tamil Nadu (P) Ltd., welcomed the gathering. Mr. P. Saravanakumar, Chairman, Shriram Chits Tamil Nadu (P) Ltd., presided over the function. Mr. Kumar Rajendran, Chairman, Dr. MGR-Janaki College for Women was the guest of honour.

Following the Chennai contest on 27th July 2019 and Puducherry (on 28th July), the contests at other centers will be held on dates: Madurai on 3rd Aug., Nellai on 4th Aug., Thiruvarur on 10th Aug., Trichy on 11th Aug., Coimbatore on 17th Aug., Erode on 18th Aug., Salem on 24thAug., Vellore on 25th Aug.

It is worth mentioning that Shriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam has been conducting this competition every year since 1988 with the view of enhancing awareness on the teachings of Thirukkural among the student community across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
