Second edition of Castrol Super Mechanic records 15 lakh call-ins

The second edition of the Castrol Super Mechanic contest, launched last year in India, saw an increase of almost 66% in call-ins and 55% increase in the number of mechanics who registered to participate in this unique event.

The Castrol Super Mechanic contest is a unique event, which provides mechanics with the opportunity to upgrade their skills, get knowledge and information about the latest trends and technologies in the automotive sector as well as in the lubricant industry. It also provides mechanics with the opportunity to showcase their skills and be recognized on a public platform. Building on the huge success of the event held for two-wheeler mechanics in 2017, the programme has been expanded this year to include car mechanics as well. However, the car event will be restricted to two cities – Mumbai and Delhi, whereas the two-wheeler event will be conducted in 8 cities (Delhi, Pune, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bangalore).

The contest kicked off in April 2018 with an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) call-in leg in which mechanics were required to answer technical questions related to bike maintenance procedures.  Top 600 mechanics from each of the four regions (North, South, East and West) will qualify for the second round where they will have to solve various theoretical and practical problems related to two-wheeler maintenance. Top three qualifiers from each of these regional rounds will take part in the national final, which will be held in August 2018 for Cars & October 2018 for bikes at Mumbai.

Commenting on the second edition of the Castrol Super Mechanic event, Mr. KedarApte, Vice President Marketing, Castrol India, said: “We are delighted with the response we have received to the second edition of the Castrol Super Mechanic initiative, as we continue to pursue our mission to upskill mechanics and provide them with a platform to showcase their skills. Given the positive response we received from the two-wheeler mechanic community last year, we have expanded the scope of the event to include car mechanics in select cities as well. The purpose of the Castrol Super Mechanic Contest is to make mechanics ready to handle vehicles of increasing sophistication and technical complexity and thus in turn provide more reliable and efficient service to customers and consumers.”

Castrol Super Mechanic is India’s largest mechanics’ knowledge testing and upskilling contest. It includes a call-in based recruitment round, regional round for selecting best mechanics to compete in the national final round. Top three mechanics from the national final round represent India to challenge mechanics from 5 other Asia Pacific countries at the Castrol Asia Pacific Super Mechanic contest to be held in Malaysia in September 2018 for cars and in Thailand in November 2018 for bikes.
