Shriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam to conduct the competitions across 10 centres in Tamil Nadu including Chennai

Shriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam, the literary wing of Shriram group, one of India’s leading non-banking financial companies, is organizing Thirukkural Elocution & Drawing Contest 2018, the annual state-level competition from 21st July to 19th August 2018, for school and college students across 10 centres covering Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

The Chennai zone competition will be held at Dr. MGR-Janaki Arts & Science College for Women, Raja Annamalaipuram on 21st July 2018. The contest at other centres will be held as follows: Puducherry on 22nd July, Madurai on 28th July, Nellai on 29th July, Thiruvarur on 4th August, Trichy on 5thAugust, Coimbatore on 11th August, Erode on 12th August, Salem on 18th August, Vellore on 19th August.

Interested persons can collect the application forms from the nearest Shriram Chits branches or from Shriram Chits, # 145, Santhome High Road, Mylapore, Chennai – 600 004 (Ph: 044 – 4021 4100) or download from www.shriramchits.com. Last date for submitting the filled in application form is 17th July 2018.

The contestants will be divided into 3 groups – Juniors (Classes: 6-8), Seniors (Classes: 9-12) and College (UG, PG, Engineering, Medical and Polytechnic students).

Topics for Elocution Contest

Each contestant can speak for 5 minutes on any of the topics mentioned below:

  • Junior Level: ‘Solluga sollin payanudaiya’ (200) or ‘Sirappueenum selvam perinum’ (311) or ‘Sollinkan Sorvu’ (642) or ‘Yaam ennum serukku’ (844)
  • Senior Level: Neerindri amaiyaathu ulagu’ (20) or ‘Yaavula munnir pavai’ (636) or ‘Paththaduththa kodi urum’ (817) or ‘Nanjunbaar kallun bavar’ (926)
  • College Level: ‘Indhiranae saalum kari’ (25) or `Paruvaththodu otta olugal’ (482) or `Thunbam uravarinum seiga’ (669) or ‘Nilamennum nallaal nagum’ (1040)

Topics for Drawing Contest (60 minutes)

  • Junior Level: ‘Siraikaakkum kaappu’ (57) or ‘Aduththathu kaattum palingu pol’ (706) or ‘Seiga porulai’ (759) or ‘Sulandrumeerp pinnathu ulagam’ (1031)
  • Senior Level: Gnalaththin maanap peridhu (102) or ‘Ullazhikkal aagaa aran’ (421) or ‘Yaanai pizhaiththavel aenthal inithu’ (772) or ‘Kundrin anaiyaarum kundruvar’ (965)
  • College Level: ‘Gunamennum kundraeri nindraar’ (29) or `Inarvoozhththum naaraa malar (650) or `Udukkai izhanthavan kaipola’ (788) or ‘Solaer uzhavar pagai’ (872)

It is worth mentioning that Shriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam has been conducting this competition every year since 1988 with the view of enhancing awareness on the teachings of Thirukkural among the student community in the state.
