Season 2 of India’s first Sportainment property in Badminton, CBL (Celebrity Badminton League), was officially launched at a formal press meet by the founding team – Mr. Hemachandran, Mr. Raghuraman and Mr. Praveen, in the presence of franchise owners and other dignitaries. Scheduled to take place on 25th February, 2018, CBL Season 2 will have celebrities from four southern film industries participating in the tournament.
Similar to last year, CBL Season2 will have four teams – Gokulam Chennai Rockers from Kollywood, Kerala Royals from Mollywood, Tollywood Thunders from Tollywood and Karnataka Warriors from Sandalwood. Whilst the team owners of Tollywood Thunders and Kerala Royals remain the same, Mr. Baiju Gopalan of Gokulam and Mr. & Mrs. Rajiv Bhakti of Dream Craft events have taken over the Gokulam Chennai Rockers and Karnataka Warriors respectively. As part of Season 2, CBL team announced the launch of a noble initiative, ‘Talent Hunt’ –with an aim to identify and nurture aspirants in becoming professional badminton players.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Hemachandran, Founding Director & CEO – CBL said, “CBL aims to build a strong platform for celebrities in the film industries to unite together and celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship in them. The response we had received from the launch season last year was phenomenal and we thank the entire film fraternity from the four southern states for making it a mega success. We intend to make this season even better by making our CBL family bigger. Additionally the ‘Talent Hunt’ initiative will aim to nurture 4 players this year under its umbrella and we intend to increase the numbers in the coming years”.
The categories of the tournament comprise of Men’s Doubles, Men’s Single, Women’s Doubles, Women’s Single and Mixed Doubles. The tournament is set to take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai on 25th February, 2018 from 8 AM onwards. Adding to this, the identified talents from the ‘Talent Hunt’ will get an opportunity to play with the celebrities in the course of the league.
